Beyond the Studios
A cyclorama (or "cyc") is a studio with a curved, seamless join between the floor and the wall, creating an infinity effect with no visible corners or horizon lines. The result is a clean, distraction-free backdrop that puts all the focus on your subject — but that's just the starting point.
What makes a cyclorama so powerful is its versatility. The same space can be a crisp white canvas for ecommerce, a dramatic backdrop for a fashion editorial, a fully dressed set with props and furniture, or a bold colour-soaked environment with a simple backdrop swap. Each shoot can look completely different — the same space, endless outcomes. It's the kind of space that adapts to your vision rather than the other way around.
It's the go-to choice for fashion photography, product and ecommerce shoots, music videos, brand campaigns, TVC production, portrait sessions, content creation, and commercial film — and that's far from an exhaustive list.
Cool Studio has two cyclorama studios: the Small Studio (4m × 4m) for stills and smaller crews, and the Big Studio (8.5m × 7.5m) for motion projects and larger commercial shoots.
Our studios are used for a wide range of projects: fashion and editorial photography, commercial and ecommerce shoots, music videos and artist content, brand campaigns, TVC production, portrait and headshot sessions, product photography, content creation for social media, and more. Cool Studio also functions as a production house — our in-house team of producers, directors, and photographers can manage the whole project if needed.
Cool Studio is the only creative space in Melbourne that combines two cyclorama studios, an analogue darkroom (Echo Darkroom), a gallery, and co-working — all under one 500m² warehouse roof in Collingwood. We're proudly community-oriented and committed to affordable access, with a First Nations discount and a culture of inclusivity. We're not just a room to rent — we're a creative community and production house.
Yes — we're home to Echo Darkroom, a professional colour and black-and-white darkroom run within our walls. Echo offers self-service darkroom hire, scanning, printing, and workshops for analogue photographers.
